LAMDA LESSONS & EXAMINATIONS IN SPEECH AND DRAMA OR ACTING (LAMDA)
Students have the opportunity to take LAMDA lessons and examinations in speech and drama and acting, and take part in various drama festivals around the Bristol area. LAMDA sessions take place during the School day and children are taken out of their normal subject lessons for a thirty-minute LAMDA lesson, approximately once a week. This is done on a rotational basis to ensure that there is not any major discontinuity in learning any one subject.
This opportunity is available for children throughout the School, and sessions are either arranged on an individual basis or shared between two students. The sessions enable children to have an opportunity to develop all aspects of performance including poetry and prose skills, acting, improvisation and mime, as well as concentrating on vocal techniques. Students can also work on public speaking and interview techniques. These skills benefit all children educationally, and in addition, help to develop confidence and self-esteem which are important not only on the stage, but in everyday life.
If you are interested in your child attending Speech and Drama sessions, please click on the link LAMDA Information including Application Form - September 2020.pdf and submit your responses. This will then be processed by the Performing Arts Administrators and you will hear from them in due course. As Speech and Drama is very popular, places are limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. You are able to express a preference for either individual or shared lessons, however, there may be occasions when it is not possible for your child to share a lesson (for example, if there are no other children at the same level as your child or if there is no other child wanting shared lessons at the time of application), and should this be the case you may be offered an individual lesson. Children are placed in pairs according to age, ability and experience.
Costs (per half hour) lesson (from September 2019 and retained for 2020-21): Individual lesson - £16.50; Shared Lesson - £13.50 per child
